Ask The Director
Following are some commonly asked questions about our LNA course. Please feel free to e-mail us with any questions you may have.
What is a Licensed Nursing Assistant - LNA?
A Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) works under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN,) licensed practical nuse (LPN,) Physician Assistant (PA,) Nurse Practitioner (NP,) Medical Doctor (MD,) or other supervisory staff as designated by the health care facility. An LNA provides assistance to patients with daily living tasks and works closely with patients/residents. An LNA is responsible for basic care services such as feeding, transfering, taking, recording, and reporting of vital signs and statistics. An LNA may also assist doctors and nurses with medical procedures. LNA's give patients important social and emotional support and also provide vital information on patient conditions to nurses, doctors, and other medical staff. Since LNA's have extensive daily contact with each patient, they are key to providing vital information on the patients' conditions to the nurse and doctor. Most LNA's agree that it is one of the most rewarding challenges that a person in the healthcare industry can undertake.
Can you tell me a little about your LNA Training Course?
The first part of our LNA training takes place in the classroom. During classroom training students will learn and take part in all aspects of patient care through lectures and hands-on demonstrations. Upon completion of the classroom training students will then begin clinical training. During clinical training students will work directly with actual patients and medical staff in the facility. You will be guided and supervised by your instructor. Each instructor will never have more than 8 students in their charge. This assures thorough skills training and personalized instruction. We also include unlimited free tutoring to anyone who wishes extra help.
Do you offer courses less than 6 weeks?
We have tried incorporating a 3 1/2 week program and found that our course offers much more information to absorb for the shorter time. Our classes consist of 8 students with different learning abilities and where some may do okay... it may be too aggressive for others. With over 5 years of training, we find the 6 week course to be optimum for ALL learning levels. Our wish is for all of our students to feel comfortable and confident. Our course is not only designed for passing the state exam... it is designed to make ALL our graduates PREMIER candidates for LNA positions and as a Hearts and Minds LNA... you will be recognized as such. Not only have all our graduates passed the state exam... They have all been hired. YOUR success is OUR success!!!
Where are LNA's Employed?
LNA's work in hospitals, nursing homes, mental health facilities, assisted living facilities, long-term care facilities, doctors offices, and private homes. LNA's may also choose to work for an agency where he/she will be assigned long and short-term assignments allowing them an opportunity to work in various health care settings.
Why do I sometimes hear Licensed Nurse Assistant's being referred to with other titles, is there a difference?
The official title in New Hampshire is Licensed Nurse Assistant or LNA. CNA or Certified Nurse Assistant is commonly used in other states such as Massachusetts. Upon passing your State exam you are then a Licensed Nurse Assistant. The title Licensed Nurse Assistant is commonly abbreviated and initialized as LNA. If you move or choose to work in another state, you are indeed qualified to work as a "CNA." You will not have to re-take a nurse assistant course but will only be required to apply for your license to practice in that state.
I wish to become an LPN or RN. Is LNA training a good course to take?
We have many graduates who have continued their education to become LPN's, RN's, phlebotomists and beyond. Our LNA course is a great opportunity to enter the healthcare field as a licensed professional in a short time, and at a low cost. while working as an LNA you will be among many health professionals who can help guide you. You will find that many of the advanced courses prefer or even require the candidates to be LNA's before acceptance.
